Ask for Maintenance History
A seller who can't or won't provide maintenance records is a red flag — equipment that's been well cared for should have documentation to show it. Missing history doesn't automatically mean the machine is bad, but it means you're buying with less information.
Check Wear Parts Closely
Sealer bars, heating elements, belts, and rollers wear over time and are the most likely components to need replacement soon after purchase. Factor the cost of replacing worn parts into your total price comparison against new equipment.
Confirm Parts Availability
Before buying a used machine, confirm that replacement parts are still being manufactured and readily available. A great deal on a machine you can't source parts for later isn't actually a good deal.
Test It Running, Not Just Standing Still
Whenever possible, see the machine actually run a product through a full cycle before buying — issues with heat distribution, sealing consistency, or unusual noise often only show up during operation.
When New Makes More Sense
If a used machine's age means limited remaining service life, uncertain parts availability, or no warranty coverage, the total cost of ownership can end up higher than buying new. Weigh the discount against those risks before deciding.
